He is currently a third year student in the MD/PhD program at Harvard/MIT, and is enrolled in the Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics PhD program.

After settling in Chicago, Bex won a prestigious Luminarts Cultural Foundation fellowship in creative writing. They are now an MFA candidate at Hamline University, where they study writing for children and young adults.
