The Official SSAT Study Guide Series

Kaplan SSAT & ISEE 2015 Edition
A comprehensive review book for both tests with practice questions and answers. A great complement to the Exambusters flashcard workbooks that cover test content.

Note: Whenever buying a test prep book for the SSAT or ISEE, make sure that it includes material covered for the exam level you are taking. For example, a common mistake is to order a book that only has upper level practice questions when you are in fact taking the lower level test.

Advice for Private School Admissions
Manhattan Family Guide to Private Schools and Selective Public Schools, 6th Edition, by Victoria Goldman
This is the bible for families applying to New York City’s private schools. Now in its 6th edition, the perennially popular and consistently updated Manhattan Family Guide has listings for 80 elementary and high schools, as well as information on admissions procedures, programs, diversity, school size, staff, tuition, and scholarships. Essential.

For more, see the author’s website, which contains links to her articles on the private school admissions process. It’s an exceptionally useful cache of experienced admissions advice.

A Family Guide to Independent Schools
This is an online list of the schools included in the Manhattan Family Guide, and provides tuition, enrollment, and contact information for each.
The NYC Private School Admissions Handbook: An Insiders' Guide To The NYC Admissions Process From Nursery Through On-Going Schools
A useful secondary book to the Manhattan Family Guide. This is more of a common-sense guide to getting through the admissions process, with a whole lot of "don't's," like "don’t answer your phone in the middle of an interview" to some very obvious "do's," like "do write a thank-you note to your interviewer." Worth a look for parents who are truly starting from square one.
