As a preschooler, Avanti wanted to be an astronaut. But after being the shortest kid in class eight years in a row, she realized that she may have to reach for the stars in a different way. She went on to major in physics from University of Mumbai and then get a Ph.D. in astrophysics from Johns Hopkins University. She completed her postdoctoral training at Harvard University, researching the environments around supermassive blackholes.
Avanti was a teaching assistant for several introductory physics classes in graduate school. She has experience teaching one on one as well as large groups. Her main focus has been physics, mathematics and statistics.
For the past few years, Avanti has been consulting on various projects, from galaxy classification to sentiment analysis of news coverage. She enjoys reading historical non-fiction, playing music and watching murder mysteries.
