Candise is originally from Taipei, Taiwan, but has lived across the US, Europe, and most recently in southern Africa (Lesotho!). She attended boarding school at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, where she developed a strong interest in earth and environmental sciences. She was inspired to major in earth science (focus in geochemistry) at Columbia University and to work in a laboratory examining the radioisotopic releases from the Fukushima nuclear disaster into the surrounding ocean environment. After Columbia, Candise went on to receive her PhD from Duke University researching how river and ocean processes impact land formation at continental margins. At Duke, she also became interested in climate-energy dynamics and published several peer-reviewed papers examining how climate change impacts the energy industry in the US. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the Carnegie Institution for Science at Stanford University.
Candise has been tutoring for five years and has worked with students from middle school to college-level. She has experience working with international students as she spent one year after college tutoring students in Taiwan, and is a former ESL student herself! Her core strengths include earth, climate, and environmental sciences, statistics, SAT and SSAT test preparation, and college admissions coaching.
In her spare time, Candise loves to travel, cook, hang out with her backyard chickens, and try new things!
