James was born in China and moved to California early in his childhood, where he has been since. He completed a double major in Public Health and Molecular & Cell Biology at UC Berkeley, graduating summa cum laude before working for a year as a clinical research coordinator in pediatric oncology. Currently, James is pursuing his MD at UCSF. His research interests include exploring mechanisms of cancer genesis and using data to inform clinical decision-making. He is passionate about Asian American health.
James has taught and tutored for organic chemistry and molecular biology classes at UC Berkeley. He has mentored students in his classes, research teams, as well as undergraduate and medical student organizations. With Cambridge Coaching, James supports students in chemistry and biology coursework. He especially enjoys helping prospective pre-medical students to achieve their goals.
In his free time, James likes playing tennis and golf, as well as exploring San Francisco and going on road trips.
