John D.

Originally from the midwest, John learned to teach and tutor while earning his doctorate in Comparative Literature at the University of Texas at Austin. In his graduate program, he studied race and the slave trade in the literature of the Europe and the Americas, with an emphasis on Brazil. He also tutored various academic subjects, mostly working with college students but also high school and occasionally primary school learners.

Since completing his PhD, John has focused on writing (both his own creative practice and coaching others in various forms of writing) as well as standardized test prep. John particularly enjoys the personal nature of tutoring that allows him to get to know the distinct learning styles of each of his students. At Cambridge Coaching, John specializes in helping students with expository writing, creative writing, English, literature, and admissions essays.

In addition to writing screenplays and songs, John likes to camp and explore the natural world.
