Originally from Ireland, Laura graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology with an Honors degree in Biomedical Science where she majored in Clinical Chemistry and minored in Immunology. In her final year, she completed her research project at The Trinity Translational Medicine Institute and it was here that she fell in love with research. Following on from this, Laura pursued a Ph.D in Cellular Immunology at The National University of Ireland. Her research interests focused on investigating cellular therapies for inflammatory disorders. She was awarded her Ph.D and is currently a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded Post-Doctoral Researcher at Harvard Medical School where she works at the Trauma Immunology Laboratory in the Department of Surgery.
Laura has worked as an instructor and tutor of science to high school and university students for several years. She is skilled at adapting her teaching style to suit all learning styles and enjoys spreading the love of science. In addition, an award was created to recognize her work as a tutor – “most likely to give her students an impromptu quiz”. So, she’ll keep you on your toes!
In her spare time, Laura enjoys exploring all that Boston has to offer. She also loves reading, watching movies (and re-watching Lord of The Rings and The X-Files) and eating out at new restaurants.
