Martha B.

Martha grew up in Washington, DC with great access to museums and her favorite was always the Air and Space Museum. This early inspiration led her to pursue engineering at Duke University, where she subsequently discovered the field of Computer Engineering and graduated cum laude with a BSE in Electrical and Computer Engineering and as a member of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. After college, Martha worked in industry as a computer hardware engineer before going back to graduate school. Martha is currently a PhD student in Computer Science at Columbia University.

Martha has experience as a tutor and as a teaching assistant in most computer science topics. She also volunteers as a teacher in an afterschool STEM program for elementary school students.

In her free time, Martha enjoys knitting and wandering around New York City. She is also an avid whitewater kayaker, and has happily discovered that there’s a surprising abundance of kayaking opportunities not too far from the city.
