Patrick was born and raised in the Boston area. During his undergraduate years at Cornell University, he pursued a wide variety of interests, double majoring in Physics and Philosophy with a minor in French. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude in Physics. Patrick then spent several years working for a defense contractor in Washington DC while earning an MS in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. Returning to Boston to pursue a PhD at MIT, his research focuses on laser systems and integrated photonics.
Patrick has a deep love of learning and sharing knowledge with others. As a TA leading recitations and tutorials for undergraduate electromagnetics, he derived great satisfaction from relating seemingly abstract concepts to intuitively understandable ones and breaking down complex systems into their constituent parts.
In his free time, Patrick enjoys playing the piano, spending as much time as possible outdoors, especially hiking in the wilderness and sailing, and learning the fiendishly difficult language of his ancestors (Gaelic).
