Sam R.

Sam grew up in Southern California with a magician as a father and librarian for a mother, and she emerged as a curious intersection of the two. She attended New York University as an undergraduate, where she studied English and American Literature and Dramatic Literature. After hustling as a producer at an ad firm for a stretch, she returned to academia and earned an MFA in Poetry from Hunter College, where she was awarded the Colie Hoffman Poetry Prize.

Sam teaches Expository Writing and Creative Writing at Hunter, and enjoys helping students build impassioned arguments and hone their craft. She is a grammarian, but is fun about it.

Outside of the classroom, you might find Sam performing in a comedy show or on the street in Brooklyn, winking at dogs.
