Sam was born and raised in New York City before attending Northwestern University where he was an English major with a concentration in creative writing. He knew he wanted to be pre-med, but was eager to pursue other disciplines while he had the opportunity. Upon graduating Sam worked as an assistant teacher, teaching fifth grade math in the South Bronx. Additionally, he worked as a private tutor and Kaplan premier tutor, helping middle school and high school students with math, English, SAT and SHSAT preparation.
Sam attended medical school at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. While in medical school he led a college application coaching program in which he worked with high school seniors who would be the first in their families to attend college. He also taught after-school courses in medicine to high school and middle school students, and was a TA for several medical school courses. Additionally he reviewed applications as a part of the admissions committee at Mount Sinai.
Since graduating from medical school in May, Sam has begun his residency in internal medicine at NYU.
In his spare time he enjoys playing sports, reading, and cooking.
