Sanjay hails from outside West Philadelphia (born and raised). He fell in love with economics at Harvard, graduating with high honors and Phi Beta Kappa. Shortly after a brief stint working for Freakonomics co-author Steven Levitt and considering a life of regular deep dish pizza in Chicago, Sanjay returned to Harvard, where he is currently pursuing a PhD in economics. Sanjay has been privileged that his graduate studies have given him multiple opportunities to travel abroad – twice to Amsterdam as part of Harvard’s 2-time World Econometric Game Championship team, and recently to Berlin for his own dissertation research.
Sanjay has worked with students of all different ages and backgrounds in a wide variety of subjects. His strengths include SAT prep, mathematics, and economics. Reflective of his particular passion for teaching economics, Sanjay has repeatedly won Harvard’s prestigious Derek Bok Certificate of Distinction and Excellence in Teaching for multiple economics courses, ranging from introductory and intermediate economic theory to policy-focused courses. His teaching philosophy stays the same regardless of the student or the material: start simple with key concepts, apply these concepts to the real world as much as possible, and have fun working together in the process!
When he’s taking a break from school, you’ll often find Sanjay hanging around the local climbing gym, strumming his guitar, or out with friends continuing the ongoing search to find the most delicious tacos in whatever city he’s exploring at the time.
