Sonia has spent most of her life in the San Francisco Bay Area, although she has also called Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and El Paso home at various times in her life. She graduated from Yale in 2018 magna cum laude, majoring in biochemistry and economics. Before she began medical school, she spent a gap year writing at a local newspaper, doing public health research at Stanford, and interning at the World Health Organization in the Philippines. She is now an MD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Sonia has tutored high school students in chemistry and English, and helped students craft application narratives and edit admissions essays to college. In addition, in college, she was an editor for two years of a campus publication on science writing. At Cambridge Coaching, her strengths are in biology, chemistry, MCAT, and writing.
Outside of school, Sonia enjoys cooking with matcha, listening to movie soundtracks, and photographing night scenery. In school, she is involved with a medical humanities magazine, and a healthcare business student organization. She hopes to combine a career in public health, writing, and medicine in the future.
