Sophia was born in Colorado but grew up in a bicultural household, splitting her time to attend grade school in the United States and in Austria. After graduating high school with an International Baccalaureate diploma, she attended the University of Colorado Boulder on a full merit scholarship and as a Presidents Leadership Class Scholar. She majored in integrative physiology, graduating in 2018 with the Chancellor’s Recognition Award and a 4.0 GPA. Sophia stuck around Boulder to earn her Master’s degree in the same department, continuing the research she started as an undergraduate in the Sleep and Development Laboratory. Her thesis work explored sleep and facial emotion expression across early childhood. Currently, Sophia is pursuing her M.D. at Harvard Medical School.
During college and her graduate studies, Sophia served as a teaching assistant for three semesters in the human anatomy lab course as well as in her major’s foundational physiology course. She has over four years of one-on-one and small-group tutoring experience in the biological sciences and specializes in MCAT preparation, on which she scored in the 100th percentile. In addition, Sophia is passionate about mentoring students through their academic careers and, drawing on her own experiences applying to medical school, provides personalized medical school admissions counseling through Cambridge Coaching.
In her free time, you can find Sophia hiking up mountains in the sunshine or skiing down them in the snow, tasting new flavors of ice cream around Boston, or nestled on the couch with a book in hand.
