Ben graduated magna cum laude from Boston University, receiving the Robert E. Bruce prize in Mathematics. He next earned his PhD in Applied Math at UNC and received a fellowship from the Oak Ridge Institute of Science and Education to conduct research on the fluid mechanics of flooding.

After working in Shanghai, China for 5 years, she returned to Massachusetts to pursue her Masters of Education in Human Development and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
