Mandy grew up in Savannah, Georgia, where she enjoyed playing piano, swimming, and kayaking on the Intercoastal Waterway. She attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta for four years, where she majored in chemical engineering and received the department’s exemplary academic achievement award. Mandy studied for the MCAT while working in a full-time internship and received a perfect CARS score (and scored in the 99th percentile total). After graduation, she lived in Denmark for one year researching minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures on a Fulbright scholarship. She is currently pursuing her MD at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia as a Perelman 21st Century Scholar (full scholarship).
Mandy first began a tutoring club in high school, where she and other seniors tutored younger students for their final exams after AP season had ended. She also taught swim lessons and piano lessons to children in middle school. In college, Mandy worked as a teaching assistant in Georgia Tech’s introduction to MATLAB course, where her responsibilities included homework tutoring, test creation, and test grading. She has mentored many premedical students at Georgia Tech and helped them understand the best ways to approach the complex medical admissions process. She has continued working with premedical students at Cambridge Coaching, where she specializes in MCAT tutoring and helps with the strategic components of the MD application.
In her free time, Mandy enjoys running along Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River trail, being a tourist in her own city, and scouring the halls of the medical school for free food.
